Sleeping Beauty Cow Skull
This one of a kind mosaic cow skull is created from a naturally found deadhead that was ethically collected and professionally cleaned. The skull is fully surfaced in hand cut glass in a deliberate palette of mustard yellow, turquoise, ox blood red and iridescent turquoise. Each color was chosen for contrast and balance, working together to highlight the natural structure of the skull rather than obscure it.
The interior cavity is filled with real Sleeping Beauty mine turquoise, introducing a raw mineral element that contrasts with the precision of the glass mosaic. The turquoise is left textural and grounded, anchoring the piece visually and materially.
Specially tinted grout was custom colored to match the blue of the base, allowing the mosaic surface to read as continuous and unified rather than segmented. This treatment intentionally blurs the boundary between glass, grout, and bone, creating a cohesive surface that moves seamlessly across the form.
This piece is both an object and a study in texture. Smooth glass against rough stone, fractured surfaces against solid bone, reflective elements beside matte mineral. It explores the idea of taking something worn and broken and rebuilding it with intention, allowing the materials to remain honest rather than hidden.
Designed as a wall mounted or table top sculptural work, the skull reveals depth and complexity up close while maintaining a strong presence from a distance.
